EU Reimposes Customs Duties on Honey Imports from Ukraine After Quota Exceeded

BRUSSELS — The European Commission has reinstated customs duties on honey imports from Ukraine after the country exceeded its annual quota under the EU’s Autonomous Trade Measures (ACM), according to an official statement released by the authority.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the volume of honey imported from Ukraine as of January 1, 2024, surpassed the quota of 44,417.56 tonnes, which had been established in the ACM regulations amended on June 6, 2024. These measures had temporarily exempted Ukrainian agricultural exports from customs duties. However, with the quota now exceeded, the ACM has automatically ceased, meaning that from August 21, 2024, to June 5, 2025, Ukrainian honey imports to the EU will revert to the standard trade regime under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement, which has been in place since 2016.
