EU Official Highlights Ethiopia’s Role in Regional Peace and Stability

ADDIS ABABA—Ethiopia’s efforts to enhance peace and stability in the Horn of Africa were acknowledged by a European Union official during a high-level meeting held this afternoon with Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the discussion featured Ambassador Mesganu and Rita Laranjinha, Managing Director for Africa at the European External Action Service (EEAS). Ambassador Mesganu emphasized Ethiopia’s ongoing strategic partnership with the EU, expressing a desire to further expand these comprehensive relations. He provided an update on recent developments in the Horn of Africa, showcasing Ethiopia’s pivotal role in the region.



Laranjinha commended Ethiopia for its significant contributions to regional peace and reassured continued EU support in combating terrorism. She highlighted the EU’s commitment to deepening relations with Ethiopia and praised the country’s rapid economic growth. Laranjinha also expressed the EU’s eagerness to strengthen connections between EU member state companies and the Ethiopian business community.



In response, Ambassador Mesganu outlined the successes of Ethiopia’s economic reforms which have created favorable conditions for trade and investment. He invited companies from EU member states to explore major investment opportunities in Ethiopia, marking a potential increase in economic collaboration between Ethiopia and the EU.
