Brussels: The European Union is in the final stages of preparing a proposal aimed at ensuring a “smooth transition” as the current period of duty-free imports from Ukraine is set to expire on June 5, the European Commission informed RIA Novosti on Tuesday. The proposal is intended to maintain economic stability and predictability for farmers and businesses within both Ukraine and the EU.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the European Commission remains committed to supporting EU-Ukrainian tariff liberalization. The forthcoming proposal will be presented to Kiev, designed to address the economic implications and potential challenges associated with the termination of duty-free imports.

The commission emphasized that the decision regarding the continuation of import exemptions will carefully consider the concerns of European farmers and assess the impact of duty-free imports on the EU market. This approach seeks to balance the interests of both European and Ukrainian stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
