Ethiopia’s Water Minister Highlights Progress in Nile Basin Cooperative Framework Agreement

KAMPALA – During the 32nd Annual Nile Basin Council of Ministers Meeting, Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Engineer Habtamu Itefa, underscored the significant progress made toward establishing the Nile Basin Commission through the Nile Basin Cooperative Framework Agreement (CFA).

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the implementation of the CFA over the past year has reached a crucial milestone, fostering optimism among the basin’s populace about the potential benefits of the Nile Basin Commission. The minister stressed the importance of this development during his remarks at the meeting, hosted by Uganda’s capital.

Habtamu called on the Nile ministerial council to guide the formation of the Nile Technical Committee and the institutional plan for the Nile Basin Initiative. He addressed the current challenges in resource mobilization and operational constraints faced by the initiative. Expressing confidence in the ongoing conference, Habtamu anticipated that it would pave the way for creating a supportive environment necessary for the initiative’s success.
