Addis Ababa – In an effort to address Ethiopia’s longstanding challenges and enhance national unity, the Islamic Affairs Supreme Council’s advisor to the president, Ustaz Abu Bakr Ahmed, has underscored the critical need for widespread participation in the forthcoming national dialogue. This initiative, the first of its kind in Ethiopia, aims to foster consensus on fundamental issues and propel the nation toward prosperity.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ustaz Abu Bakr highlighted the participation of diverse societal segments as essential for a successful dialogue. He noted the National Dialogue Commission’s efforts in mobilizing potential participants from various regions and city administrations. The commission has also engaged in collecting agenda items at the regional level in collaboration with stakeholders.

Ustaz Abu Bakr stressed that the traditional inability to resolve conflicts through dialogue poses a significant obstacle. He cited the Northern War as an example where reliance on armed conflict failed to settle disputes. Instead, he advocates for a peaceful approach that encourages a contest of ideas, aiming for resolutions that are mutually satisfactory without resorting to violence.

The advisor reaffirmed that dialogue remains the sole viable method to overcome differences and advance national development. He urged all Ethiopians to actively support this crucial endeavor, emphasizing that constructive dialogue is key to resolving the country’s issues and avoiding further conflict and destruction.
