Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Engages in Bilateral Talks with African Counterparts


ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taye Atske-Selassie, engaged in a series of bilateral discussions with his counterparts from various African nations. These meetings took place on the sidelines of the 44th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU).



According to the Ethiopian News Agency, Taye held talks with South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, Burundi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Albert Shingiro, and Cameroon’s Foreign Minister, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, focusing on bilateral issues. A strategic partnership agreement was signed between Ethiopia and South Africa to enhance bilateral and multilateral relations in areas of common interest, including education, technology, telecom, security and safety, and knowledge transfer.



Taye emphasized Ethiopia’s commitment to elevating its relationship with South Africa to new heights. Additionally, fruitful discussions were held with ministers from Cameroon and Burundi, focusing on strengthening cooperation and forging comprehensive relations. Meetings with the foreign ministers of Zimbabwe, Benin, Angola, and Norway’s Minister of International Development, Anne Beathe Tvinnereim, were also conducted, covering a range of issues including education, climate change, and humanitarian aid.
