Washington: Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Eyob Tekalign, engaged in discussions with Neil J. Beck, Assistant USTR for WTO and Multilateral Affairs at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2025 IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Dr. Eyob updated Beck on Ethiopia’s progress toward its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The state minister reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to meeting the necessary requirements for joining the WTO by March 2026.
Neil J. Beck, representing the USTR, praised Ethiopia’s efforts and highlighted the United States’ support for the country’s WTO accession. He expressed a keen interest in seeing Ethiopia successfully integrate into the global trading system.
Both parties agreed to maintain their collaboration and strengthen their partnership as Ethiopia progresses toward WTO membership.
