Ethiopia’s Chemical Industry Corporation Reports Substantial Revenue Growth


ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Chemical Industry Corporation has announced a significant revenue milestone, achieving 5 billion Birr from its chemical product sales in the past eleven months.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Hundessa Dessalegn, this figure represents a 28.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The Chemical Industry Corporation, a major player in Ethiopia’s economy, has been instrumental in boosting the productivity and profitability across various sectors including agriculture, health, and construction through its chemical inputs. The corporation oversees several key facilities, such as the Muger Cement Factory, Adami Tulu Pesticide Processing Factory, Awash Melkasa Chemical Factory, Batu Caustic Soda Factory, and the Rubber Tree Development and Production Project.



Hundessa highlighted the corporation’s role in both domestic and international markets, supplying products that are partially or fully processed. He also mentioned an ongoing expansion project aimed at increasing production capacity, particularly in rubber tree cultivation. The corporation has planted half a million rubber trees over 6,000 hectares in the Oromia and Southwest Ethiopia regions, with expectations to harvest up to 30 tons of rubber trees monthly. This initiative not only covers national demand but also aims to enhance foreign currency earnings through exports.



The CEO emphasized the corporation’s critical contribution to Ethiopia’s status as an attractive destination for chemical trade, supported by government priorities. With its diverse chemical industry needs ranging from food and beverages to textiles, Ethiopia continues to strengthen its position in the global market.
