Addis Ababa — The Ethiopian Police University has announced its ambitious plan to become Africa’s leading education and training hub for police and law enforcement officials. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize and enhance the capabilities of the country’s justice system through advanced training and international collaboration.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the university is spearheading several initiatives aimed at advancing scientific criminal investigation and analysis. This includes the construction of a new state-of-the-art Forensic Institute, scheduled to become operational by November, which will focus on modern forensic techniques such as fingerprint analysis and documentation. Mesfin highlighted the institute’s role in not only providing specialized training but also in coordinating efforts across the police service.

The university is also enhancing its international ties by collaborating with global police training centers to strengthen its educational offerings and foster cooperation in law enforcement practices. Mesfin noted that the Forensic Institute will adhere to international standards and incorporate substantial input from researchers and scientists to ensure its programs are cutting-edge.

Furthermore, the university is expanding its educational scope by developing a police leadership training center and a civilian strategic institution. These centers are intended to be focal points for research, training, and experience sharing, targeting the urgent need for competent and effective leadership within the law enforcement sector.

By investing in educational infrastructure and international partnerships, the Ethiopian Police University is setting itself up as a pivotal regional and continental hub for law enforcement knowledge and expertise, aiming to significantly uplift the quality of policing across Africa.
