Ethiopian Airlines Partners Panasonic Avionics to Equip Boeing 777X Fleet with New In-Flight Entertainment

Addis Ababa: Ethiopian Airlines has entered into an agreement with Panasonic Avionics Corporation to install its Astrova in-flight entertainment solution on the airline’s new Boeing 777X fleet. Astrova, Panasonic Avionics’ latest offering, will be integrated into the eight Boeing 777-9 aircraft ordered by the Ethiopian flag carrier, with the first plane expected to be operational in 2028.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the collaboration marks Panasonic Avionics’ commitment to expanding its presence in Africa and underscores Ethiopian Airlines’ strategic vision to enhance passenger experiences with cutting-edge technology. The Astrova system will transform the in-flight experience by providing passengers with high-definition 4K OLED HDR10+ screens and premium audio facilitated by Panasonic Avionics’ Bluetooth® technology.

Passengers will also benefit from up to 100W USB-C power at their seats, allowing for fast charging of mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and other devices throughout all phases of fligh
t. Additionally, the new IFE system will feature programmable LED lighting to enhance passenger comfort and cabin ambiance.

In a press release, Mesfin Tasew, Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, expressed that the new 777 fleet represents a significant advancement in passenger experience, particularly with innovative and engaging in-flight entertainment. Mesfin emphasized that Astrova was the optimal choice for Ethiopian Airlines and is expected to redefine their in-flight offerings.
