Addis Ababa: Ethiopia will host the 2nd Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), which aims to highlight Africa’s role in crafting global climate solutions, from September 8-10, 2025. This was disclosed at the Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Forum Technical Working Group Meeting that took place in Addis Ababa Thursday.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Planning and Development State Minister Seyoum Mekonnen emphasized that climate change is a significant emergency affecting various aspects of life, disturbing ecosystems, displacing communities, and threatening essential resources. As the host of ACS2, Ethiopia aims to catalyze discussions into actionable climate solutions focusing on financing nature-based and technological solutions suitable for Africa and beyond.

Seyoum further stated that Ethiopia has been demonstrating leadership and commitment to sustainable growth through initiatives in climate-smart agriculture, the e-mobility policy, and significant infrastructure developments. He highlighted the government’s intention to shift the narrative on climate change, showcasing Africa’s proactive efforts rather than portraying it solely as a victim.

The forum, established in 2018 with its development partners, has actively participated in Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, striving for effective implementation of the CRGE Strategy. The forum’s major members, including EU Delegation, Royal Norwegian Embassy, Swedish Embassy, Denmark Embassy, British Embassy, Korean Embassy, German Embassy, and other development partners, along with CRGE pillar ministries, have been aligning efforts to boost their contribution to climate solutions.

Norwegian Embassy Climate and Forests Counsellor, Live Sydness, noted Norway’s collaboration with Ethiopia on the CRGE strategy and the Nationally Determined Contribution. She emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional coordination and donor collaboration to achieve Ethiopia’s CRGE strategy targets.

British Embassy Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Climate and Nature Lead, Dr. Nina Hissen-Wright, expressed optimism for fruitful dialogue and cooperation between donors and the Ethiopian government. She noted the potential for Ethiopia to establish a functioning power market and seize available opportunities.
