Ethiopia Signals Commitment to Deepen Ties with BRICS Nations Through Parliamentary Cooperation


SAINT PETERSBURG — Speaker of the House of Federation (HoF) Agegnehu Teshager has reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation with BRICS member countries, highlighting a strategic move to enhance political, economic, and people-to-people relations.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the Ethiopian delegation led by Speaker Teshager participated in the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held from July 11th to 12th, 2024, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. During the forum, Ethiopia expressed a strong desire to deepen ties with BRICS nations through collaborative parliamentary efforts. The discussions included key bilateral meetings with officials from Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran, focusing on enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation, bolstering economic ties, and deepening political relations among the nations.



This initiative marks a significant step for Ethiopia as it seeks to assert itself more prominently on the global stage by leveraging parliamentary diplomacy to foster substantive international relationships. The engagements at the BRICS forum are part of Ethiopia’s broader strategy to strengthen its international alliances and enhance its role in global economic and political spheres.
