ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Engineer Habtamu Itefa, has declared the Nile River Cooperative Framework Agreement (CFA) crucial in rectifying inequalities in the utilization of Nile waters. The agreement, which came into effect last Sunday, marks a pivotal step in regional efforts to ensure fair water distribution among Nile Basin countries.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Engineer Habtamu briefed the media on the recent activation of the CFA, emphasizing its role in establishing the Nile River Basin Commission. This new body is tasked with managing and safeguarding the Nile River’s resources for the equitable benefit of all member countries. The minister stressed that the formal commencement of the agreement symbolizes a significant advancement in collaborative water management and regional cooperation.
The CFA aims to foster sustainable water use and enhance partnerships among the nations of the Nile Basin, promoting strategies that address long-standing disparities in resource allocation.
