Ethiopia Engages in BRICS Consultation to Promote Shared Narratives and Combat Misinformation


MOSCOW — Ethiopia has participated in a consultation with spokespersons and heads of information departments of BRICS ministries of foreign affairs, focusing on promoting BRICS narratives and addressing misinformation. The meeting, held today in Moscow, underscored Ethiopia’s commitment to deeper collaboration within the BRICS framework.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ambassador Nebiyu Tedla, the spokesperson for Ethiopia’s Ministry, articulated Ethiopia’s intent to work closely with other BRICS members in promoting the group’s narratives and combating fake news. He emphasized the importance of strengthening ties among the national media of the member states to uphold BRICS principles such as mutual respect, understanding, equality, solidarity, openness, inclusiveness, and consensus.



The discussions in Moscow, led by Maria Zakarova, the Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, centered on enhancing practical coordination and deepening cooperation among the media of BRICS member states. Additionally, the meeting addressed the use of digital diplomacy tools to further BRICS foreign policy agendas.



The spokespersons and heads of information departments agreed to establish better coordination in setting narratives and linking national media, which will help advance the BRICS agenda both locally and globally.
