Ethiopia, China Committed to Elevating Multifaceted Bilateral Cooperation


ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopia and China have pledged to elevate their multifaceted bilateral cooperation to new heights, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing. Ethiopia’s Minister of Industry, Melaku Alebel, and Chairman of the China International Development Agency, Luo Zhaohui, held a productive bilateral discussion in Beijing today.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Melaku highlighted Ethiopia’s significant economic achievements in various fields, emphasizing the creation of numerous job opportunities for the youth and the implementation of multiple impactful projects driving the economy forward. The minister stressed the crucial role of the China International Development Cooperation Agency in expediting the completion of ongoing projects.



Melaku affirmed that Ethiopia’s economic reform is on the right track and expressed a strong commitment to providing substantial investment opportunities for international investors, particularly encouraging Chinese investors. He provided a comprehensive overview of achievements in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and manufacturing and extended an invitation to potential investors to explore opportunities in these areas.



The minister also underlined the importance of partner intervention in addressing gaps, using Ethiopia’s green legacy initiative as a prime example. He emphasized the need for joint actions to tackle global challenges and called upon partners, including China, to collaborate through coordinated planning and consultation.



Luo Zhaohui expressed China’s strong commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s economy across all sectors. He noted the efforts made to train professionals and enhance their capacity to strengthen Ethiopia’s economy and highlighted numerous projects implemented to support the country’s ongoing economic reform.



Both parties affirmed their commitment to collaborating on matters of mutual interest and shared concern. Additionally, Melaku convened a trilateral consultation meeting with representatives from UNIDO and other international partners, where they emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation to address poverty and underdevelopment and reached a consensus to fund projects aimed at bolstering economic development. They collectively signed several documents to foster mutual cooperation in key areas such as knowledge and technology sharing for shared development and prosperity.
