Ethiopia Celebrates National Flag Day with a Renewed Pledge to Unity and Sovereignty

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs marked the 17th National Flag Day, using the occasion to reiterate Ethiopia’s commitment to national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, this year’s celebrations, held under the theme ‘Our Flag for Our National Unity, Sovereignty, and the Elevation of Ethiopia,’ were particularly resonant. During the event, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, emphasized the significance of the day. He remarked, “National flag day is a historic day on which we renew our vows to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ethiopia as well as celebrate those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their homeland.”



Ambassador Mesganu also highlighted the symbolic importance of the Ethiopian flag, noting its representation of the nation’s struggle for independence and its role as a beacon of Pan-Africanism and unity amidst diversity. He pointed out that the flag encapsulates the nation’s ongoing journey towards democratization and economic development. The celebration is an annual event organized by the House of Peoples’ Representatives aimed at bolstering national unity and advancing the country’s developmental goals.
