Ethiopia Attends High-Level Security Meeting in Moscow

Moscow: The 13th international meeting of high-level security representatives from over a hundred countries commenced in Moscow, Russia, with a significant participation from Ethiopia. The Ethiopian delegation, led by Ambassador to Russia Genet Teshome, engaged in discussions with officials responsible for security matters.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin addressed the opening session, emphasizing the necessity for a new international security architecture that is both equal and indivisible. He highlighted the importance of providing firm security guarantees to all states without compromising the security and interests of others.

Delegations at the forum noted that the current international order is confronted with complex security, economic, and social challenges, especially impacting countries in the South. Many participants advocated for adherence to multilateralism, respecting the UN Charter and international law, as a means to address these issues.

In his keynote speech, Ambassador Genet underscored the importance of considering the voices, expectations, and concerns of the Global South in reforming international structures. He warned that ignoring these voices would lead to unsuccessful reform efforts. The ambassador also pointed out the serious security challenges posed by advancements in Artificial Intelligence and cyber technology threats to the Global South.

Ambassador Genet highlighted the critical need for international cooperation to strengthen the BRICS’ cyber emergency response team. Additionally, Ethiopia participated in an informal multilateral cooperation meeting of the BRICS member states during the forum.
