Ethiopia and Sudan to reinforce security on common border

ADDIS ABABA— The Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) informed on Wednesday that they agreed to work with the military institutions of Sudan to reinforce security on the border between the two countries.

According to the press release posted on Facebook, the decision came during a meeting between ENDF Brigadier General Erqalo Dukato and Abdullah Mohamed, who heads the Sudanese delegation.

The two parties agreed on the need to intensify the fight against human trafficking and illegal trafficking of goods, and to join forces against other border crimes.

According to the text, Dukato and Mohamed considered it essential ‘to eliminate all violations in order to guarantee stability in these areas and to be able to combat the organizations that threaten peace and hinder bilateral relations.’

Our cooperation can help solve the problems efficiently and will allow us to turn the border areas into a corridor of peace, economic development, and social growth, the senior Ethiopian official stressed.

For his part, the Sudanese military officer said that the discussion was very important and pointed out that, with close collaboration, they will be able to enforce the law and build a secure future for the two nations’ citizens, the press release noted.
