Ethiopia and Pakistan Explore Maritime and Regional Security Cooperation


ISLAMABAD – Ethiopia and Pakistan have expressed interest in enhancing their cooperation in maritime and regional security. Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, Jemal Beker, met with Pakistan’s Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, to discuss bilateral security interests.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ambassador Beker outlined Ethiopia’s contributions to regional integration and security, including its efforts in combating terrorism and initiatives like the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) for regional development. The discussions also touched on Ethiopia’s recent Memorandum of Understanding with Somaliland and the country’s role in the successful conduct of the 37th African Union Summit. Admiral Ashraf commended Ethiopia’s significant contributions to regional stability and the potential for increased bilateral cooperation in maritime domains.
