ADDIS ABABA: Ethiopia and the Czech Republic engaged in a bilateral discussion to explore new areas of development cooperation, focusing on agriculture, public administration, and social development.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the meeting was highlighted by Ethiopia’s Finance State Minister, Semereta Sewasew, who emphasized the success of the previous framework in generating employment for youth and enhancing fruit value chains in Ethiopia’s southern regions. The framework also contributed to capacity building in water and land management, nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation, with significant outcomes achieved through knowledge transfer and public system support.

Petr Gandalovic, Director for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance from the Czech Republic, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. Gandalovic stated that the forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 2025-2030 would concentrate on agriculture and rural development, public administration
and civil society, and inclusive social development.

The discussion was attended by Miloslav Kosek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic, and Zdenka Šubrová, Deputy Director of the Department of Africa from the Czech Republic. Both parties agreed to finalize and sign the new MoU during the anticipated official visit of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic in early December.
