Ethiopia Achieves Record Wheat Harvest Through Irrigation Development

ADDIS ABABA: Ethiopia has harvested over 50 million quintals of wheat from 1.4 million hectares of land through its national irrigation initiative this fiscal year, reported the Ministry of Agriculture.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Public Relations and Communications Executive Officer at the ministry, the project was initiated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and began as a pilot on 3,500 hectares in collaboration with the Afar Region Agricultural Research Institution. The initiative aims to leverage the region’s significant land and water resources to boost wheat production.



The successful pilot in the Afar region has since expanded to 3 million hectares across the country, illustrating significant progress in Ethiopia’s agricultural development efforts.
