ADDIS ABABA – Ethio Telecom, in partnership with VISA Company, has launched new international digital money transfer services aimed at transforming traditional remittance methods. The announcement was made during the signing of a strategic agreement to introduce VISA Direct and Tele Birr remit services.

According to the Ethiopian News Agency, the collaboration with VISA will revolutionize the way remittances are handled, offering Ethio telecom users a virtual VISA card wallet. VISA Direct enables VISA cardholders abroad to transfer money home using the Tele Birr virtual card number, promoting simple, fast, and convenient transactions across over 190 countries. Tele Birr Remit also allows users abroad to send money directly to friends and family in Ethiopia using their Tele Bir number through a dedicated mobile application. The service is accessible via the Visa Direct and Telebirr Remit apps integrated within the Telebirr SuperApp.

This initiative is expected to significantly increase the volume of remittances sent to Ethiopia and underscores Ethio Telecom’s commitment to providing cutting-edge financial solutions, supporting the country’s digital transformation.
