Addis Ababa — Ethio-telecom announced its initiative to broaden mobile telephone network coverage throughout Ethiopia's rural areas, focusing on using renewable energy sources. The company has inaugurated projects specifically in the Somali and Central regions of Ethiopia aimed at improving connectivity for remote communities.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the newly introduced Rural Mobile Network Solution Service is designed to overcome geographical and infrastructural challenges by facilitating mobile network access in rural regions with limited road infrastructure and challenging landscapes. This initiative has been empowered through the use of solar energy, enabling the installation of mobile networks in areas lacking electrical power.
Haile-Mariam highlighted the project's significant impact, noting that the Rural Mobile Network Solution Service has already reached approximately 900,000 individuals in 305 rural Kebeles across the nation. Ethio-telecom plans to continue this expansion across all rural areas of Ethiopia, maintaining a focus on renewable energy solutions to ensure sustainable and widespread connectivity.
