ERC MC Dissolved Following No Confidence Vote Against Chairperson

Windhoek: The Erongo Regional Council (ERC) management committee has been dissolved following the successful passing of a motion of no confidence against its chairperson Benitha Imbamba. once a motion of no confidence is adopted, the management committee is automatically dissolved, necessitating the appointment of new leadership.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the other two members of the three-person management committee are Walvis Bay Rural Constituency Councillor Florian Donatus of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) party and Omaruru Constituency Councillor Ernst Wetha of Swapo.

The termination of the committee, in compliance with the Regional Councils Act 22 of 1992, follows a Special Ordinary Regional Council meeting held on Monday, 24 March. The motion, tabled on 13 March by Deriou Benson, the IPC councillor for Walvis Bay Urban, was deliberated upon by the council before a vote was taken, ultimately leading to its acceptance.

According to ERC Chief Regional Officer Sam Ntelamo in a media statement issued on Thursday, the council has now begun the process of reconstituting a new leadership structure following the removal of the chairperson and dissolution of the management committee. The process, according to Ntelamo, is expected to be finalised soon.

'We assure the public, particularly the residents of the Erongo Region, that the operations of the council are continuing uninterrupted,' he expressed. The removal of Swapo's Imbamba follows increasing tensions within the council, with some members raising concerns about governance and decision-making.

The motion tabled against the chairperson, who is also Arandis Constituency Councillor, expressed dissatisfaction regarding the implementation of council resolutions and regional development priorities.
