Windhoek: The Epupa All Stars football team and Otjinene netball team clinched the inaugural Namibia Rural Sport Development Federation (NRSDF) Winter Cup on Sunday at the Bobby Sissing Stadium in Windhoek. The competition, which saw participation from 11 football teams and 10 netball teams, offered a total prize pool of N.dollars 35 000. According to Namibia Press Agency, the Epupa All Stars from the Kunene Region secured their victory against Otjombinde in a tense final that ended with a 5-4 win on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time. Prior to the final, Epupa edged past Otjimbingue with a 3-2 scoreline in the semi-finals, while Otjombinde booked their place in the final by narrowly defeating Ovitoto 1-0. As champions, Epupa All Stars took home N.dollars 11 000, a trophy, and 20 gold medals. The runners-up, Otjombinde, were awarded N.dollars 7 000 and 20 silver medals. Meanwhile, Ovitoto and Otjimbingue each received N.dollars 3 500 for finishing third in the competition. In the netball ca tegory, Otjinene emerged victorious by defeating Epukiro with a scoreline of 35-27. Earlier in the semi-finals, Otjinene had overcome Ovitoto 32-26, while Epukiro advanced by defeating Otjimbingue 30-17. The netball champions, Otjinene, were awarded N.dollars 5 000, a trophy, and 12 gold medals, with the runners-up Epukiro receiving N.dollars 2 500 and 12 silver medals. Ovitoto and Otjinene each earned N.dollars 1 250 as semi-finalists. Epupa's head coach, Never Ngombe, attributed their success to the team's cooperation and determination. "I have to thank the Almighty God, the players, and supporters for this victory. Our preparations happened in a short period, so we are happy to be crowned the champions," Ngombe said. Otjinene netball coach, Mbatero Tjatindi, credited her team's triumph to their hard work and commitment. "We are not new to winning these competitions and the support we got from our supporters played a huge role. We will continue pushing for more glory and make Otjinene proud," Tjatindi st ated.
