SINDOU — The High Commissioner of Léraba province, Mahamadi Congo, officially launched the 10th edition of the Environmental Holiday Camp on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in Sindou. This annual event, organized by the provincial department in charge of the Environment, is designed to engage young people during their school vacation by educating them on critical environmental issues and practical skills for environmental conservation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, who is also the promoter of the event, the camp has been held each year since 2015 with the goal of raising awareness among young people about environmental challenges and equipping them with the knowledge necessary to protect and restore their surroundings. This year’s camp, which will last for a month, has attracted more than 200 students.
Participants will receive training on a variety of topics, including the sustainable use and transformation of non-timber forest products (NTFP) into items like soumbala, shea butter, teedo juice, and soap. Additionally, they will learn how to establish and manage nutritious gardens, handle waste management in their immediate environment, and participate in study and tourist outings.
High Commissioner Congo visited the camp to encourage the students and offer advice as they embark on their month-long educational journey. The initiative is part of the broader effort to instill environmental stewardship in the younger generation, ensuring that they are actively involved in addressing the environmental challenges facing their communities.
