Embu: A family in Nguviu Village, Manyatta Constituency in Embu County is seeking help from well-wishers to retrieve the remains of their deceased kin who passed away in Tanzania a month ago.
According to Kenya News Agency, the deceased, Isaac Murithi, 47, died on August 7 at a hospital in Tanzania where he was rushed after complaining of stomach upset while on a business trip.
The family reports that Murithi left behind a substantial hospital bill of over Sh. 400,000 that has been increasing daily due to mortuary charges. His elder brother, John Mwaniki, stated that as of last week, the bill had grown to around Sh. 550,000, an amount they cannot afford.
Mwaniki explained that the family has been unable to make any significant progress in raising the required funds and has appealed for assistance from both the government and benevolent individuals. ‘We have only been able to raise Sh. 30,000, which is insufficient to cover the rising hospital bill,’ he said.
He further expressed that Murithi’s death has deeply affected their elderly mother, who is overwhelmed with grief, particularly by the thought that she might not be able to bury her son.
Another relative, Jacinta Wanjiru, expressed distress over the disrupted burial arrangements, noting that mourners who had been visiting the home have become disheartened upon learning about the challenging task of repatriating the body.
