EMBU — In a significant operation against illegal liquor, Embu authorities confiscated 1,500 crates of suspected counterfeit beer hidden in a store masquerading as an agrovet in Kianjokoma Township, Runyenjes Constituency. The raid, conducted at 10 pm, resulted in the arrest of a suspect, marking a key victory in the ongoing campaign against illicit substances in the area.

According to Kenya News Agency, the operation was sparked by tips from the public, raising suspicions about the activities at the agrovet, which was frequently closed.

Obuo announced that the seized alcohol would undergo thorough testing by relevant government bodies to confirm its authenticity. The initial assessment suggests the liquor is counterfeit, given the lack of approval for the storeroom and the absence of any claims of ownership for the beverages. This latest haul is part of a broader crackdown initiated earlier in the month, which has already led to the capture of 8,220 bottles of suspected illegal alcoholic drinks and 12 kilograms of bhang.

The County Commissioner reported significant progress in the fight against counterfeit alcohol and drug distribution, including the arrest of a well-known counterfeiter in Siakago Town, Mbeere North Constituency. Obuo credited the success of the operation to the cooperation of the public and the dedication of security agencies. He emphasized the commitment to continuing the crackdown until the county is free from the illegal trade, which has caused severe health issues and fatalities among the population.

Obuo issued a stern warning to those involved in the distribution of illegal substances, stating that their activities would not go unpunished and that law enforcement efforts would only intensify.
