Embu County Enhances Fire Safety Measures in Vocational Training Centres

Embu: Embu County Government has procured assorted firefighting equipment for all 26 Vocational Training Centres (VTC) to enhance fire disaster preparedness. The equipment includes carbon dioxide gas, foam and powder extinguishers, signs, fire blankets, and first aid kits, which are intended to help the institutions respond quickly in the event of a fire outbreak.

According to Kenya News Agency, County CECM in charge of Education, Daniel Ngeranwa, stated that this precautionary measure ensures that the VTCs can control and extinguish small fires before they escalate. While receiving the equipment delivered by Dejofil Fire Safety Limited, Ngeranwa noted that two managers from each institution received training on firefighting skills and techniques from the same company.

The two-day training conducted last December focused on communication during emergencies, fire prevention, and suppression. TVET County Chief Officer Ephantus Mugendi emphasized that the equipment will contribute to creating a secure environment in the learning institutions, where fire hazards pose potential threats.

Dejofil Fire Safety Limited's lead fire technician and trainer, Franklin Korir, expressed confidence that the county is adequately prepared for fire emergencies following the training and provision of equipment. The company is also expected to install the equipment in critical areas of the institutions.
