Embu: A businesswoman from Embu Town is crying for justice after she was allegedly assaulted by her estranged husband at her place of work on Saturday, May 3. The incident occurred at around 11 am, leaving Irene Karimoni, who operates an Mpesa and Stationery Shop within Embu Town CBD, with a broken arm, a bruised face, and three cracked teeth from the attack.
According to Kenya News Agency, the unfolding drama was captured on CCTV, which the mother of a two-year-old girl is relying on to prove her case against the suspect. She claims the man has been terrorizing her since their separation two years ago. Despite her efforts, justice has remained elusive, as she reports that he frequently abuses her at home and work, accompanied by death threats.
Karimoni accused the suspect of manipulating the system by filing cover-up reports with the police after committing offenses. She expressed frustration at the police’s inaction, alleging that he continues to roam freely, using his ‘connections’ to evade justice.
From her workplace on Thursday morning, Karimoni suspected foul play when she was asked to report to the DCI offices for fingerprinting in preparation for court arraignment. She questioned the rationale behind her prosecution, given her status as the victim, only to be informed that both parties would be charged with engaging in a fight.
Karimoni described this as a tactic to absolve the suspect from accountability, allowing him to continue his alleged physical and emotional abuse. True to the developments, she was arrested, processed, and detained at Embu Police Station, awaiting a court appearance on Friday.
The businesswoman lives in fear, alleging that the man has threatened her life. She urged authorities to take such threats seriously, fearing that he might act on them. Amid sobs, she confessed to suffering from depression, even contemplating ending her life and her daughter’s to escape the torment.
