Eliud Owalo Resigns, Joins 2027 Presidential Race

Oboch: Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency in the Executive Office of the President, Eliud Owalo, has officially declared his presidential bid in the 2027 general elections. The move marks a major political announcement that could reshape Kenya's political landscape. According to Kenya News Agency, Owalo announced his decision during a gathering in Oboch, Rarieda Sub-county in Siaya, stating that extensive deliberations and wide consultations over the past month led to his decision. Owalo cited his extensive experience working behind the scenes for other political leaders as a driving force behind his decision to seek the country's top office. Owalo reflected on his 15-year political career, highlighting his role as the chief campaigner for the late Raila Odinga during the 2013 presidential campaign. He also noted his significant contribution to President William Ruto's campaign, particularly in the Nyanza region, expressing his readiness to transition from supporting roles to running for the presidency himself in 2027. A seasoned technocrat and political strategist, Owalo has built a reputation as a behind-the-scenes power broker, serving in influential roles within the government and political circles before his appointment to the Executive Office of the President. On the political party he will use to contest the presidency, Owalo stated that he will make an announcement in the coming days. Owalo emphasized the importance of embracing multiparty democracy, particularly in the Nyanza region, which has traditionally been perceived as a stronghold of a single dominant party. He advocated for voters' freedom to choose leaders based on merit rather than party affiliation, asserting that the power to elect leaders should rest entirely with the voters. Owalo made these remarks during a church service commemorating 106 years since the death of the founding father of the Nomiya Church, Nabii Yohana Owalo, who was also his grandfather.
