WINDHOEK – The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is finalizing the introduction of the Integrated Mobile Voter Registration System (IMVRS), set to modernise the nation’s electoral processes.
According to Namibia Press Agency (Nampa), the commission responded to the Landless Peoples Movement’s (LPM) accusations concerning the IMVRS’s reliability, transparency, and functionality. The ECN’s Chief Electoral and Referenda Officer, Peter Shaama, strongly denounced these allegations, stating them as baseless and misleading. The ECN clarified that during a recent meeting with political parties and organisations, including the LPM, details about the progress of the IMVRS were shared, and a mock voter registration was announced to test the system before its full implementation.
The ECN also highlighted the necessity of preparing and testing all equipment as per standard procurement procedures to ensure functionality. Shaama emphasized that the commission and its officials maintain full control over the system’s setup, dismissing any concerns over external interference or control over the electoral technology.
