Elections Commence Smoothly in Windhoek Constituencies

Windhoek: The Regional Council and Local Authority elections commenced successfully in the Windhoek West, Windhoek Rural, and Windhoek East constituencies in the Khomas Region on Wednesday. Officials from the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) reported that all polling stations in the Windhoek East, West, and Rural constituencies opened at 07h00, with voters already lined up to cast their votes.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Rikondjera Kavari, the returning officer for Windhoek West, stated that there has been a high turnout and no issues have been encountered. "The process is smooth, there are no long queues, and I must emphasise that the process is quick," he said.

Azzette Simon, the returning officer for Windhoek East, mentioned that all teams opened at 07h00, noting that the process is proceeding smoothly. "The turnout is commendable; we have a significant number of voters, and there are sufficient polling stations for them to navigate," she added.

Mathews Mhani, the returning officer for Windhoek Rural, also reported that everything is functioning well without any problems, observing that most polling stations have been busy since they opened in the morning.
