Nkurenkuru: The election materials for the seven constituencies in the Kavango West Region were offloaded and received at the Nkurenkuru Police Headquarters on Wednesday, ahead of the Regional Councils and Local Authority elections set for 26 November.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Electoral Commission of Namibia's (ECN) Kavango West Regional Electoral Officer, Elizabeth Visagie, confirmed that materials for seven of the region's eight constituencies have arrived and are being processed at the police regional office. "We received the sensitive material for the regional and local authority elections that will be conducted on 26 November 2025, as well as for the special voting that will take place on 24 November 2025," Visagie said.
The Mankumpi Constituency will not participate in the Regional Council elections as its candidate was already declared duly elected without contest. Special voting materials will be dispatched to polling stations on 23 November 2025, with special voting scheduled for 24 November 2025. This will be followed by the main election day on 26 November 2025.
Non-sensitive election materials have already been stored in the ECN regional warehouse, organised according to deployment teams. Political party representatives have been allowed to verify the sealing of transportation trucks carrying election materials, ensuring transparency in the process.
However, the duplicate card printing process, which began on Monday, 17 November 2025 and runs from 08h00 until 17h00 until 23 November 2025, has recorded disappointing turnout figures. "The turnout is actually very low. Our daily statistics just show one or two people coming up for the whole day," Visagie said.
The duplicate card printing allows voters who have lost or damaged their voter registration cards to obtain replacements at constituency offices across the region. Despite the low turnout for duplicate card printing, election officials remain confident about conducting a transparent electoral process. Polling teams are being deployed to designated special voting points throughout the Kavango West Region.
The ECN has emphasised its commitment to ensuring all eligible voters can participate in both the Regional Council and Local Authority elections. The commission continues to encourage residents who need duplicate voter cards to visit their constituency offices before the deadline.
