WINDHOEK — The Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology (MICT) inaugurated the Eighth National Information Communication Technology (ICT) Summit on Tuesday, which will run from September 9-11. The event kicked off with a significant sponsorship contribution, totaling N.dollars 1,010,000 in cash and N.dollars 456,000 in-kind, provided by various corporate partners.
According to Namibia Press Agency, ICT Minister Emma Theofelus emphasized the critical nature of this year’s summit theme, ‘Building Resilience to ‘Adapt or Die’ in the Era of Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI)’. She highlighted the urgency of embracing technological advancements to ensure national competitiveness, resilience, and prosperity. The minister outlined the transformative potential of digital technologies and AI in reshaping societies and economies but cautioned that their integration must be handled with a focus on ethical standards, transparency, and inclusivity.
Deputy Minister of ICT, Modestus Amutse, further elaborated on the summit’s role in fostering discussions on innovation and the adaptation to digital transformation within Namibia. He stressed the importance of collaboration to position Namibia as a leader in digital evolution in Africa, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence.
