Lderitz: An eight-year-old girl died after being struck by a vehicle in Lderitz on Friday. The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for the ||Kharas Region, Deputy Commissioner Nicodemus Mbango, told Nampa on Sunday that the deceased was identified as Hendrina Kafidi and her next of kin are aware of her death.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the incident occurred around 16h00 in the Area 7 residential area of the coastal town. It is alleged that the 30-year-old driver lost control over the vehicle she was driving, causing it to drive into two separate shacks, coming to a stop in a third shack.
Mbango stated, “The vehicle drove over a child that was seated on the ground between the shacks, causing severe head injury. The child was transported from the scene by an ambulance, but was declared dead on arrival at the Lderitz State Hospital.” The driver, who holds a learner’s licence, was arrested.
