Eight men, Sivuyile Chris Miki, Yamkela Gedeni, Mandisi Mzikayise Zweni, Athenkosi France Nyathi, Lwandile Mngazana, Lwazi Landzela, Siyabulela Madini and Zolile Sombo briefly appeared in the Bellville Magistrate Court this morning, 08 June 2023 for charges ranging from kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, extortion and theft.

This comes after their successive arrest by the multidisciplinary Provincial Kidnapping task team for allegedly kidnapping a Welgemoed woman on Friday, 02 June 2023 at Parow Industria after she left a family business where she works.

The victim was rescued in a house in Mfuleni, Cape Town, during a raid by the members of the Provincial Kidnapping task team on Tuesday, 06 June 2023. It is reported that the victim’s vehicle was later found abandoned at NY 99 in Gugulethu.

The matter was adjourned until 15 June 2023 for bail information.

The Task team comprising of DPCI, Provincial Organised Crime detectives, Crime Intelligence, Special task force, hostage negotiators, City of Cape Town and the Provincial Crime Scene Management worked tirelessly without any fear or favour after the kidnapping was reported in ensuring that the suspects were arrested.

The Provincial Head Western Cape, Major General Mathipa Makgato Police commended the team. The General added by saying the success would not have been possible if it was not for the dedication and persistent efforts of the kidnapping task team. We are starting to see positive results. These members involved in the arrests have done an excellent job.
