Ouagadougou: Muslim worshippers in the Black Countryside City marked the breaking of their fast on Monday morning, March 31, 2025, with the Eid al-Fitr prayer. The grand prayer that marked the event at the Place de la Nation, starting at 8 a.m., was packed. The imam of the great mosque of Banfora, El Adji Ahmad Sanogo, officiated this prayer. Leaders of several religious communities and regional authorities led by Badabou¨ Florent Bazi©, governor of the region, went to deliver the prayers to the Muslim worshippers of the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Grand Imam of Banfora, El Hadji Ahmad Sanogo, led this great prayer. After the two Rakats, Imam Sanogo, surrounded by his disciples and colleagues, proceeded to read his sermon. In essence, he urged the Muslim faithful to tolerance, cohesion, good conduct in society, forgiveness, etc. In addition, the Imam invited the faithful to strengthen their faith and emphasized the benefits of fasting.
El Hadji Ahmad Sanogo prayed for the region and all of Burkina Faso. He paid tribute to the men engaged at the front lines. He also wished a speedy recovery to all the sick and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased. He asked Almighty God to grant the necessary strength to the country’s authorities to defeat terrorism.
For this prayer marking the end of the Muslim fast, the faithful responded massively. According to Amadou Barry, former president of the Fulani community for several decades, this prayer is very important for the Muslim believer, because it consecrates the crowning of the “blessed month” of fasting.
Along with several members of his community, they came to pray for the mercy of the Almighty. For its part, the Fulani community lives in perfect symbiosis with other communities. “If someone comes to a locality with a simple travel bag and manages to obtain a shed, and subsequently a ‘sonsoribougou (undivided),’ it is because he feels better, otherwise, he would have continued on his way.”
It should be recalled that leaders of several religious communities and regional authorities, led by the region’s governor, went to offer their support to the region’s Muslim faithful on this occasion. On behalf of the country’s highest authorities, Mr. Bazi© wished all Muslims in the region a happy holiday. He asked them to continue working for social cohesion and the return of peace to Burkina Faso. It should be recalled that in Banfora, there were several other prayer sites for this end of the fast.
