Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed joint mediation efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement. The conversation took place on Tuesday and focused on collaborative measures to address the ongoing conflict in the region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the ministers reviewed their efforts, alongside the United States, to resume the ceasefire, halt the bloodshed affecting the Palestinian people, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and ensure the urgent and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty also informed his Qatari counterpart about Egypt’s plans to host a conference focused on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, in coordination with the Palestinian government and the United Nations, once a ceasefire is established.

The discussions also covered the ongoing truce between Iran and Israel after nearly two weeks of mutual strikes that began in mid-June. Both ministers emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire, reducing tensions, and pursuing diplomatic solutions. The truce between Israel and Iran followed unexpected U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for the resumption of negotiations concerning the Iranian nuclear issue and all efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in the Middle East, as detailed in the statement.
