CAIRO—Egypt has dispatched 22 tons of humanitarian aid to Lebanon, as announced by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Saturday, in a gesture of solidarity amidst ongoing regional conflicts.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the aid shipment, which included essential medicines and medical supplies, arrived at Beirut Airport. This act of support follows directives from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi aimed at assisting the Lebanese people amidst the fallout from escalating Israeli military actions.
In addition to the aid delivery, the Egyptian embassy in Lebanon coordinated the return of 286 Egyptians who were stranded due to the suspension of most commercial flights. These individuals returned to Egypt on a special flight operated by EgyptAir.
The delivery comes at a time when Israel has escalated its airstrikes targeting Hezbollah officials and infrastructure in and around Beirut, and has initiated what it has described as a "limited" ground operation in Lebanon.
