Windhoek: Egypt's Ambassador to Namibia, Ramia Shawky, on Monday expressed his country's readiness to aggressively expand and strengthen trade and economic relations with Namibia in areas of mutual benefit. Shawky, during a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare, conveyed Egypt's commitment to deepening collaboration with Namibia, building on the longstanding partnership between the two nations that dates back to Egypt's support for Namibia's liberation struggle in the 1960s and the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990.

According to Namibia Press Agency, a statement issued on Tuesday by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said talks during the engagement were rooted in critical areas aimed at solidifying bilateral cooperation. The engagement was attended by senior government officials, including the Deputy Ministers of International Relations and Trade, and Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, as well as the Ministers of Justice and Labour Relations, and Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform among others.

It said areas discussed included green hydrogen and renewable energy, agriculture and agro-processing, infrastructure development, the medical and pharmaceutical sector, education and capacity building, trade facilitation, and value addition. Speaking on regional and international affairs, Ngurare reaffirmed Namibia's upstanding position on observing territorial integrity and condemned any acts that undermine sovereignty, while reiterating the nation's persistent support for the people of Palestine and their right to govern themselves.

'He also reaffirmed Namibia's longstanding support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination,' the statement noted.
