Egypt and Jordan Advocate for Political Resolution to Middle East Tensions

CAIRO—In a significant diplomatic move, Egypt and Jordan have jointly called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza and Lebanon. This appeal was made during a press conference held in Cairo by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi. Both nations stressed the need for a political solution to resolve the ongoing conflicts.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the two ministers addressed the press on Tuesday, articulating their governments' positions on the escalating tensions in the Middle East. They reviewed the continuous efforts made by Egypt and Jordan in consulting with the involved parties and other nations. The aim is to stave off the situation from escalating into a comprehensive regional war.

During the discussions, Abdelatty highlighted the critical importance of ongoing Arab initiatives to secure a ceasefire in Gaza. He condemned the intense military actions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as "brutal Israeli aggression." Furthermore, Abdelatty firmly rejected any Israeli policies that might force Palestinians to abandon their lands, a move he claimed would end the Palestinian cause and adversely affect neighboring states.

On his part, Safadi reiterated Jordan's commitment to collaborate with Egypt to halt the Israeli military actions in both Gaza and Lebanon. He expressed deep concern over the volatile situation in the West Bank, warning that any further escalation could lead to dire consequences. "The situation is really on the brink of the abyss," Safadi remarked, emphasizing the urgency for action and the importance of upholding international laws.
