EFO Secures 15th Title in the 37th Edition of the Faso Cup

OUAGADOUGOU – EFO emerged victorious in the 37th edition of the Faso Cup, clinching their 15th title and further solidifying their status as the most decorated club in the tournament’s history.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the final match was intensely competitive, especially against Rahimo, with the outcome uncertain until the very end. Both teams had their chances throughout the match with key players like Camille Yé and Eric Emmanuel Tapsoba attempting to break the deadlock, but the match remained goalless even after regular time. The situation intensified after EFO was reduced to ten men in the 55th minute when central defender Emmanuel Ouédraogo received his second yellow card.

The turning point came during the penalty shootout. Phillippe La Paix Maré, EFO’s goalkeeper, showcased his skills by saving Rahimo’s 6th penalty, securing the win for EFO. The victory was not just a triumph but a relief for EFO, as it guaranteed them a place in the upcoming CAF Cup matches, beginning mid-August against Hafia FC of Guinea.

The ceremony, presided over by President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, saw EFO awarded the trophy, a gold medal, and 10 million FCFA, while Rahimo took home the silver medal. CFFEB, a second division team, finished third and received a bronze medal along with 5 million FCFA.

EFO’s win adds to their impressive Faso Cup legacy, with their nearest rivals, ASFA-Y and ASFB, holding significantly fewer titles. The victory also marks a significant moment for the club, potentially turning around what had been an otherwise challenging season.
