Bam: The efforts of the FDS and VDP pave the way for the return of internally displaced persons. The High Commissioner of Bam Province, Karim Ouedraogo, praised on Tuesday the remarkable work of the Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP) and the Defence and Security Forces (FDS), whose actions on the ground will allow the return of several internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their localities of origin by the start of the rainy season.
According to Burkina Information Agency, High Commissioner Ouedraogo was speaking at the solemn raising of the national colours for May 2026 at the Bam Provincial Treasury. He praised the remarkable efforts of the fighting forces in the progressive securing of the areas, an essential condition for the resettlement of populations.
The High Commissioner also called on administrative, customary, and religious authorities as well as the population to strengthen their commitment alongside the FDS and the VDP, in a spirit of solidarity and cohesion, to consolidate the gains and support the sustainable return of internally displaced persons.
The High Commissioner congratulated and encouraged Provincial Treasurer Yacouba Nikiema and his staff for the quality of their services. Karim Ouedraogo also recalled that the Provincial Treasury plays a central role in the State by ensuring the rigorous, transparent, and credible management of public resources, an essential mission which requires discipline and probity.
The next visit is scheduled for early June at the Provincial Directorate of Water and Forests of Bam.
