Bomet: Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Dr. Julius Kibet Bitok, has reaffirmed the Government's commitment to ensuring every child has access to quality education so as to ensure equal potential to future opportunities for all in the job market. Speaking during an Education Day celebration held at Kisabei Secondary School in Sotik Constituency, Bomet County in an event that drew hundreds of students, teachers, parents, education stakeholders and local leaders from Bomet county, Bitok noted that such education open days created a vibrant platform to have candid discussions on the current challenges and future of education, besides celebrating achievements within the sector.
According to Kenya News Agency, he emphasized the transformative power of education, describing it as the foundation for national development and individual success, calling on all stakeholders to work together in supporting learners by helping create an environment where every child can thrive regardless of their background. The PS noted that continued investment in education remains a key priority for the Government as it seeks to improve learning outcomes across the country.
'In this regard, the government is keen on improving school infrastructure in all schools across the country by progressively allocation resources and partnering with stakeholders to ensure that we give learners a conducive environment for excellence.', he said. Bitok urged parents to step up their efforts in guiding the students on good societal morals and advise them to steer clear of irresponsible behavior such as arson and destruction of property while airing their grievances towards the school administration.
On the recent surge in cases of school unrest, The PS asked school teachers and administrators to remain vigilant on errant behavior among students and take necessary action to protect lives and wanton destruction of property. He asked students to avoid taking the law into their hands while protesting but always seek dialogue and other avenues that won't ruin their future.
The Education PS was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Aurelia Chepkirui Rono, who commended teachers, parents and the wider school community for their unwavering dedication to nurturing young minds. She underscored the importance of collaboration between government institutions, schools and communities in expanding access to quality education and ensuring learners are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the modern world.
Also present were Sotik Member of Parliament Francis Sigei, Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei and other leaders who lauded ongoing government efforts to strengthen the education sector.
