Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso - the Minister in charge of higher education, Professor Adjima Thiombiano, mandated significant changes in his department on Friday, with the aim of enhancing efficiency and responsiveness in the handling of administrative tasks.
According to Burkina Information Agency, who spoke during a meeting on May 31, 2024, the existing slowness and occasional laxity in document processing hinder the effectiveness of the ministry's missions. He stressed the need for increased commitment and initiative among the heads of various structures to better meet the needs of the ministry's users.
Professor Thiombiano praised the efforts already made by his team but underscored that a new approach was necessary to advance the ministry's objectives. He emphasized the importance of reform, innovation, and a willingness to take risks, noting a general lack of reforms in many areas of the department. The minister specifically called for bold actions and structural solutions, urging leaders to clearly assume their responsibilities.
Further instructions were directed at university presidents to standardize academic years across institutions by the end of 2024. Thiombiano tasked them with establishing effective monitoring systems to ensure this goal is met. Additionally, he addressed the managers of the National Center for University Works (CENOU) and the National Fund for Education and Research (FONER), instructing them to initiate projects aimed at improving the living and study conditions of students.
In terms of administrative operations, the minister also advised a reduction in operating expenses to promote better governance within the educational sector.
