Economic Performance Dominates Meeting Between Economic Team and Business Technical Group

Luanda: The presentation of the national economic performance, with emphasis on the main macroeconomic indicators of the first quarter of this year, dominated, this Wednesday, in Luanda, the meeting between the Angolan Government's Economic Team and the Business Technical Group (GTE). Among the indicators presented at the meeting, chaired by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) above 5% for the second consecutive quarter stands out, remaining at 5.32% in the first quarter. According to Angola Press News Agency, the dynamic slowdown in the pace of inflation was also emphasized, which in April this year stood at 11.58%, compared to 15.7% in December 2025, according to the national director of Socioeconomic Studies at the Ministry of Planning, Domingos Sobrinho, in statements to the press at the end of the meeting. He said that the reduction in inflation has also been driven by the dynamics of reducing prices in the food and non-al coholic beverages class, which has greater weight in the structure of inflation. Still in the field of macroeconomic indicators, he added, we looked at the reduction of public debt as a percentage of GDP, which in 2025 was below 60%, which is the limit established in the Public Finance Sustainability Law. The Executive Decree, recently approved and published by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, to support producers and boost national production, with a view to achieving food and nutritional security, was among the topics analyzed. According to Domingos Sobrinho, the meeting outlined a new model of interaction and coordination between the technical teams of the Business Technical Group and the Secretariat for the Productive Sector of the President of the Republic. In turn, the new coordinator of the Business Technical Group, Manuel Victoriano Sumbula, said that the GTE raised, among other concerns, those linked to tourism, fishing, industry and commerce. In the tourism field, for example, the concern w as to improve access to some attractive points and gas stations along national roads, with a view to boosting the sector. On the other hand, Manuel Victoriano Sumbula said that the GTE's goal, by the end of this year, is to incorporate other associations, so that they can give more strength to the group and significantly help the Executive to respond quickly to the desires of the business class. Created in 2018, GTE is a social partner of the Government of Angola formed by a group of 20 associations, 6 consultants for some specialties and a coordinator.
