Oshikoto: An Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) vehicle was involved in an accident between Tsumeb and Tsintsabis in the early hours of Saturday. The incident took place at approximately 01h10 on the B15 road near Hiquib Combined School.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force’s regional commander for Oshikoto, Theopoline Kalompho-Nashikaku, reported that a case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened against the 37-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle. The vehicle was heading towards Tsintsabis, carrying tables and tents, when it encountered a large herd of cattle on the road. In an attempt to avoid the animals, the driver lost control, resulting in the vehicle veering off the road and overturning.

Kalompho-Nashikaku stated that both the driver and a passenger sustained slight injuries. While no arrests have been made, investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Sion Shikufinde, the ECN’s Guinas Constituency returning officer, confirmed that the two officials were en route to the coalition centre for the Guinas Constituency by-election verification when the accident occurred. He assured that no fatalities or serious injuries were reported and that emergency teams promptly attended to those involved. Shikufinde also mentioned that the vehicle was transporting non-sensitive election materials at the time of the accident.
