WINDHOEK — The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) reported a significant surge in voter registrations, with 152,472 new voters added from July 29 to August 1, marking the conclusion of the 4th General Registration of Voters (GRV) for 2024.
According to Namibia Press Agency, this latest registration effort pushed the average daily registration to 38,002 voters, the highest since the start of the GRV. Shaama announced on Friday in Windhoek that the total number of registered voters, including those enrolled at Namibian diplomatic missions abroad, now totals 1,467,604. This figure represents 91 percent of the eligible voter population.
“The Commission extended its gratitude to all registered voters and electoral stakeholders who supported the voter education campaigns throughout the GRV. The collective efforts of stakeholders in enhancing the Commission’s communication drive and strategy to register eligible voters have been invaluable,” Shaama said.
He outlined the next steps in the electoral process, indicating that the ECN would now begin demobilizing registration teams and returning all registration materials to ECN headquarters. This will be followed by the uploading of registration data to the Central Server and the commencement of the Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) process, data segregation, and the production of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
“The PVR will be published in the Government Gazette on 29 August 2024 and will be available for inspection and objections at designated locations, which will be announced later, within the timelines set in the Electoral Calendar,” Shaama concluded.
