Kunene: The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has initiated the distribution of sensitive electoral materials in the Kunene Region in preparation for the Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections scheduled for 26 November 2025.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the electoral officer for Kunene, Mike Nganjone, informed that the ECN received all necessary sensitive materials for the region's seven constituencies on Wednesday. This marks a significant step in readying the region for the upcoming elections. The materials include voter verification devices, ballot papers, ballot boxes, seals, and forms, with distribution commencing early Thursday.
'We are busy distributing the sensitive materials that are intended for the southern constituencies today after receiving them yesterday,' Nganjone stated. The distribution covers Kunene south, specifically the Kamanjab, Outjo, and Khorixas constituencies. The process begins in Kamanjab, proceeds to Outjo, and concludes in Khorixas, utilizing three ECN-assigned vehicles.
Nganjone highlighted the electoral body's focus on the safe management of these sensitive materials, emphasizing collaboration with the Namibian Police to ensure process integrity. The materials are transported under police protection.
In broader preparations, Nganjone noted that the region recently completed its primary training sessions for poll workers, which covered vital responsibilities like managing polling places, processing ballots, assisting voters, and operating electronic verification systems. Refresher training for tablet operators and presiding officers is set to begin on Monday.
Lastly, Nganjone mentioned that the ECN is working to supply polling venues with remaining necessary items such as chairs, tents, and generators. He encouraged local stakeholders, including the community, to assist the commission by contacting the ECN logistics office.
